Life Coaching Frequently Asked Questions
While coaching has seen a rise in popularity over the past decade, not everyone is aware of its benefits. Take a look at our most frequently asked questions to gain a greater understanding of how Christian Life Coaching can help you.
Coaching is a collaborative, one-on-one, confidential, ongoing process where the client is guided by the coach to make better decisions, look at alternatives to current choices, identify tolerations and barriers, reach beyond their feelings of limitations and focus better to achieve their goals. Coaching is client-centered and driven, and coach supported.
More simply put, life coaching is the art and practice of guiding a person or group from where they are toward the greater competence and fulfillment that they desire.
Therapy and counseling focus on emotional history and/or diagnosing mental illness. Therapy and counseling are more about healing from the past.
Coaching presumes the client is emotionally stable and capable. It focuses on the client's current life, plans for the future, goal setting and taking actions to achieve those goals.
While there are some similarities, there are also several differences.
Secular Coaching urges the coaching client to seek their own desires and goals. It urges the client to reflect on what it is they truly want, then works to achieve stated goals and remove obstacles that get in the way of achieving success.
Christian Coaching inspires the client to seek God's will and timing in their life and align their life with God's plan. This requires the Christian Coach to be familiar with biblical principles. The Christian Coach works to assist the client in finding their talents & gifts to benefit a greater purpose and may use prayer (privately or with the client) to assist in removal of obstacles .
Another difference is that while secular coaching works under man's power, Christian coaching confesses and works in harmony with God's infinite power.
