First of all, i would like to say sorry! Earlier i told you that your "Last Lecture" sucked, but after reading it; instead of listening to one sentence and walking out and re-entering while you are almost done with your speech i sat here and read it more than once. It is very motivating to see how some teachers and speakers look at their listeners, in your case (ex-students).

Your a great writer and i hope you hear it as often as possible. Even though you weren't my teacher and i learned your name a day before you left the school, i still say your a good instructor. One day I hope to become as good of a speaker as you are, Mr. King.

For too many years of my life, I have walked around blaming all of my troubles on someone else’s inability to make me do it. I believe with all my heart that I would still do that, had I never met you. Eighteen months ago when I walked into class and looked for the teacher, my life was changed. My first impression of you? Honestly, I thought you were trying to sell us something. In all intents and purposes you were. Your wares were vastly different from what I first perceived them to be. What you sold us came at a very reasonable yet costly price.

You sold us our hope back and the only thing it cost us was a higher accountability. I hope and pray that makes sense. ‘Egami’ floored me. Not because I had no idea that I perceived myself differently that what was actually true, but because I realized that in my life the person holding me back the most was myself. It saddens me to think that you have left the world of academics. You were one of the few teachers that have ever flung my b/s excuses back in my face. I was forced to grow up (I still have a lot more to accomplish). I do not believe that you are even aware of the changes in my life just from having met you.

I consider you a mentor, friend, teacher, and advisor. I appreciate the fact that you expected more from us all and regret how many times you were left wanting more from us. Never in my life did I expect to learn the life lessons that I did in the eighteen months that you were teaching.

Thank you for the motivating teaching style that you employ in every aspect of your life. Even when we were just having discussions outside of the classroom, I learned something from you. If all the institutions of learning were to have the privilege of being blessed with a teacher that cares as much as you do this world would be better off.

Okay, I think I am rambling and most likely sound a bit sappy. What I am truly trying to say is Mr. King: I thank you and wish you God-speed and many blessings in whatever endeavor you find yourself pursuing. Motivate the world!

Keep in touch,
Karen

P.S. That I could have been there for the last lecture! Probably a good thing that I was not as I surely would have been in tears.

Mr. King,
Finding out about your departure from school was devastating to me. I however did enjoy your last lecture, I will always take with me the lessons that I have learned from you. I hope that you continue on to be inspirational to all the people that you come across in life. Good luck. We love you and will miss you greatly.

TBryant,

Rarely do I feel the need to respond to comments unless a reader asks a specific question. However, your comment has moved me so that I have no choice but to publicly express my heartfelt thanks for you kind words. Through your words, I also find strength and encouragement. Thank you.

CLK,

Your blog today offers your readers a raw and honest glimpse into your soul and your greatness. While reading I could only hope that my children find a motivator such as yourself. Your nuggets of wisdom are true words of wisdom not just for your students but anyone on this journey of life. Continually, I find myself challenged and encouraged to greatness by your words, insight, and wisdom. Today your words reflect true greatness. As a reader I am committed to aspire and propel myself to my personal best... Thank you!
